With the overwhelming presence of fast foods and chemical-laden products, it’s becoming harder and harder to be healthy, right? Wrong! With the ever growing research and information available to us now, it is inexcusable for us to not make some serious lifestyle changes. Thanks to organisations like Absolute Organix, alternatives are abundant. Dan and I are all about healthy living and go out of our way to ensure a clean and green lifestyle. We try really hard to eat correctly and buy consciously. Here is our latest health haul from Absolute Organix.
Absolute Organix is a leading South African manufacturer and distributor of organic and natural products. They supply numerous health retailers, supermarkets and online stores. As shown in the picture above, they sell anything from protein powders to household cleaning products, at affordable prices. But price is not a factor when I purchase an eco-friendly product over one that isn’t. Reducing my impact is priceless. Packaging is the devil, though. Why must everything be packaged in plastic? I loathe plastic and will seriously consider not purchasing something if it’s wrapped in plastic. The only reason I bought these products is because I want to reuse the packaging when I return to the warehouse.
This isn’t enough but it’s a small step forward in our attempt to stop buying plastic. Dan bought this hand-woven basket from a lady on the side of the road. In doing this, we’re supporting local. We use this for when we buy non-packaged fruit and vegetables from organic markets – which we try to support more than supermarkets.
Dan and I each bought a chemical-free skin cream made exclusively with natural ingredients. Since coming off the pill, my skin has been extremely unpredictable and inconsistent. One day it’s dry, one day it’s oily. Some days it’s both. I have continued to wash my face with oil, but I need something extra. I purchased the Down To Earth Clear Skin Gel which is loaded with aloe vera and tea tree oil. However, I was looking for something a tad more moisturising than this, but will continue to use as it is extremely soothing.
Dan has extraordinarily dry skin. Coconut oil wasn’t even good enough so he’s trying the Sativa Hemp and Moroccan Fig Body Butter
This Greenman Toilet and Bathroom Gel smells amazing and gets the job done! I love that it’s an all-purpose cleaner so that I don’t have to buy another plastic bottled cleaning product.
As you all know, moringa and maca powder are a vital part of my post-pill detox regime. I add them to all my smoothies and I even add maca to my hot cocoa since it’s got sort of a malty taste. This Purple Collagen Protein Powder contains 20 amino acids that helps promote joint and bone health, and reduce visible signs of ageing. Dan and I hardly eat meat, so plant-based protein powders help us get the protein we need, over and above the copious amounts of legumes we consume. We bought the Pea and Hemp Protein Powder which we add to smoothies.
P.S Hemp has an overwhelming taste therefore I wouldn’t recommend drinking this protein powder by itself!
Another crucial part of my post-pill detox regime is a good probiotic. I was originally taking The Real Thing Probiotic capsules but decided to give a probiotic in liquid form a go. I chose the Probyo Digestive Cultured Drink. There is also an Immune and Sports cultured drink.
I love making smoothies. I love how easy it is to add a whole bunch of nutritious foods into my diet with one drink. It’s difficult to incorporate all these foods individually into our meals; will you really remember to eat three different fruits, three different vegetables AND some healthy fats in one day? A smoothie helps you do it all at once! I’ve been making smoothies daily since the beginning of my post-pill journey, using a high-powered industrial blender. But with kale stalks and apple skins creating a very pulpy consistency (often requiring a spoon), I needed something even more effective. I didn’t want a juicer, because I believe the pulp is more nutritious than the juice itself, and juicers get rid of pulp. I needed the best of both worlds i.e the Nutribullet!
Dan and I have been lusting after the Nutribullet for so long and finally bought one last week. It is by far the best thing we have ever spent money on! It truly lived up to our expectations and totally obliterates anything we put in it. It liquidizes anything, even chia seeds, you know, those minute seeds that are the size of a grain of sand. Mind-blowing to say the least! We bought the Nutribullet 600 series, but there is also the 900 series in case you need to blend concrete or something.
